Sustainability win: Hospital medicine cups replaced with biodegradable alternative 02 August 2023 The Procurement and Supply team have reached an exciting turning point for sustainability in our hospitals – we are close to phasing out plastic medicine cups entirely. Replacing plastic medicine cups across the entire metropolitan WA public health system has significant environmental impact. Public hospitals in Perth go through approximately 7 million medicine cups annually, which equates to 6,000kg. Initiated by part of theSustainable Health Reviewwhich includes a commitment to waste reduction under Recommendation 5, plastic medicine cups were identified as a product able to be replaced with a biodegradable alternative. Meeting a set of criteria, the new products would be phased in as the old stock was gradually used up – ensuring no wastage. NurseWest celebrates two decades of compassionate care and spectacular service 01 August 2023 On Wednesday 2 August 2023, over 50 dedicated nurses and passionate employees from NurseWest convened for a truly special morning tea to commemorate a remarkable milestone – two decades of unwavering commitment to the WA health system. This gathering wasn't just an event, it was a chance for both past and present nurses to come together and share memories, accomplishments, and camaraderie that have defined their journey so far. More hospitals get access to Digital Medical Records 03 July 2023 Gone are the days of sifting through piles of paperwork and relying on fragmented information to piece together a patient’s medical history. The introduction of Digital Medical Records (DMR) brings many benefits revolutionising the way patient care is delivered. This innovative technology offers clinicians immediate access to patient information at the very point of care, resulting in a more coordinated and efficient approach to treatment. Over May and June, HSS worked in collaboration with WACHS and NMHS to transition Kalgoorlie, Katanning, Albany and King Edward Memorial Hospital to the growing list of WA health sites now able to access DMR. Over the next 18 months more regional and metropolitan hospitals will be switching from paper to digital medical records.
