Members of our ICT Security and Risk Management team have won a cybersecurity hackathon challenge at the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) Perth Conference earlier last week.
Congratulations to Security Analysts Yaroslav Lukyanchenko, Sudhara Dharmawardhana, and Systems Administrator Stewart Shepherd for developing a winning cybersecurity tool.
Sudhara said the challenge involved building a solution that would identify Domain Name System (DNS) information and other subdomains related to a given website within 24 hours while passively scanning for vulnerabilities.
“It was a race against the clock to create this solution, but we were able to do it after an entire night of coding,” he said.
“Our tool helps identify insecurities and inform users on how to strengthen their network or websites to protect themselves against cyberattacks.”
“It was a competitive field and we were so excited that we won!”
The HSS team has been invited to compete in a final hackathon challenge to be held in Singapore in March 2020.
Director of Security and Risk Management Martin Dart, who also presented at the AISA Perth Conference about cloud security practices in the WA health system, said it was great to see HSS recognised within the industry.
“Collaboration with security partners like AISA helps uplift staff skills and challenges our current outlook, pushing us to continually seek new ways to protect information against cyberattacks,” he said.
