Single patient information system enhancing patient care
For more than a decade, a dedicated team at Health Support Services (HSS) has worked to enable WA public hospitals and health services to access a single source of truth for all patient activity through one patient administration system.
WebPAS, a patient administration system that enables health professionals and administrators to manage patient flow and information, has now been implemented across all WA health system sites.
Every WA public patient will now have one unique patient identifier regardless of where they receive care in the state’s public system and information associated with their healthcare history will be available through linked clinical applications.
HSS Director ICT Applications, Tony Lenzarini said the project was a success thanks to a skilled team who worked collaboratively with health service providers (HSPs).
“The WebPAS implementation team has worked diligently over the past 10 years to deliver this significant ICT solution for the WA health system,” Tony said.
“Having a single patient administration system will enhance the patient’s healthcare journey between hospitals and enable safer care.”
A patient billing and revenue collection (PBRC) solution was implemented in tandem with WebPAS, providing an automated system for processing invoices – previously a manual task.
HSS Director of Accounts Payable Myra Masters said PBRC will increase efficiency and help HSPs to recover costs.
“It’s a credit to the WebPAS and PBRC implementation teams, and the application support teams for their planning and collaborative efforts, that the project was completed on time, within budget and with minimal impact to patient care,” Myra said.
